Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy at Brockton Physiotherapy
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy focused on the muscles, joints, and connective tissues of the pelvis. These structures play a key role in bladder and bowel control, sexual health, core stability, breathing, and movement. When they aren’t functioning optimally, symptoms can show up in ways that affect both physical comfort and quality of life.
Our approach is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and centered on your goals. Whether your concerns are new, longstanding, or something you’ve been quietly managing for years, you are not alone- and help is available.
What Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Can Help With
Pelvic floor physiotherapy may be beneficial for individuals experiencing:
Urinary urgency, frequency, or leakage
Pelvic pain or pain with penetration
Pregnancy-related discomfort
Postpartum recovery (vaginal or cesarean birth)
Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms
Bowel control concerns or constipation
Pain related to exercise, lifting, or core activities
If you’re unsure whether pelvic floor physiotherapy is right for you, we’re happy to help you decide.
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Your initial assessment begins with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and goals. Education is a core part of care- you’ll gain a clear understanding of how your pelvic floor functions and how it may be contributing to your concerns.
With your informed consent, assessment may include posture, breathing, movement, and external or internal pelvic floor muscle evaluation. Internal assessments are never mandatory and are only performed if appropriate and comfortable for you.
Treatment Approach
Treatment is individualized and may include:
Pelvic floor muscle training (strengthening or relaxation)
Breathing and pressure-management strategies
Manual therapy and soft tissue techniques
Core and hip strengthening
Education for daily activities, exercise, and symptom management
Our goal is not just symptom relief, but helping you feel confident, informed, and empowered in your body.
A Safe, Respectful Space
We recognize that pelvic health can feel personal or sensitive. Our clinicians prioritize clear communication, consent, and patient comfort at every step. You are always in control of your care.
